Have you ever in your life seen such a dramatic crib? Fit for a princess ... no joke! Ok... so I'm a little jealous .. I wish my little one had that in her nursery!! ;o)

I finally finished some Elizabeth Toile artwork someone requested me to do. It coordinates with PBK's bedding ... which is getting harder to find .. it is a popular bedding .. and you can see why! If you just love pastels ... pinks especially ... this Toile bedding is for you! I see there is plenty available on ebay. If you have a little girl and don't know what theme to go with ... I am suggesting the Elizabeth Toile ... you can't go wrong with a fairytale room or nursery!

Five Random things about me this week:

1. Just bought a fun work out book! I LOVE it!

2. McDonald's is my favorite fast food place (I know... kind of crazy with Chic-fil-A here in the South) .. I love their lattes!

3. I love purses! I don't need another purse .. I just want one for the Fall! ;-)

4. I am still BF with my HS friends! Even if we are 700 miles away from each other!

5. Come 6:00 pm Friday I will be pouring myself a big glass of red wine. ;-)

We moms are always looking for something NEW to put on the dinner table aren't we? Well, I found the BEST One-Pot Chicken recipe that I LOVE and my children LOVE (how awesome is that?). I am now on the hunt for more EASY one-pot recipes!!! Does anyone have one they would like to share??

Here is the recipe:

Pesto Chicken Bake

In a large roasting pan, mix 2.5 lbs of chicken (I use skinless boneless strips) ... you can use bone-in thighs or drumsticks or breasts too! 1.5 lbs of BABY RED potatoes, a pint of grape or cherry tomatoes, 1/2 cup (or 1/2 jar) of pesto (found in the deli or produce section), 2 tbsp of water, 2 tsp of olive oil, salt & pepper to taste. Mix everything in the pan and bake at 425 for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

I brought this to a friend who just had surgery and she immediately texted me and asked for the recipe. It is soooo yummy!! I look forward to getting some new one-pot recipes from you!

I am back from California ... and oh did we have a great time at my niece's wedding! I have never been to Wine Country before! I met my 5 siblings there and it sure was nice getting together again for a happy occasion! (it was my dad's funeral the last time).

So, it has been a busy few days around here getting orders processed so they can be shipped before my next trip! I am leaving to drive with my 2 kids to Chicago (gulp!) to go see my mom. My mom hasn't seen the kids in several years (she doesn't travel anymore). It's about a 13 hr drive, so I will probably do it in 2 days .... why hurry?!

Hi.. I hope the summer finds you well! School is just about over everywhere .. yeah~!

We are back from our first little family vacation (visiting the in-laws and then to a beach destination) .. it was wonderful. I thought I'd surprise my husband with a brand new Garmin (GPS) for our trip. The kids enjoyed it more than him I think! Anyhow, we plugged in his parent's address (about 600 miles away) and off we went! We started driving the way we normally take but then the Garmin told us to take a left. We were like "should we?" and thought "why not!" So, it took us through every little town through Southern Georgia and every little town through Florida! We didn't take one major highway ... not one! When we saw I-95 off in the distance we were wondering why it didn't take us onto the interstate .. weird. So, we finally got there ... about 2 extra hours of driving because of the Garmin ... but we enjoyed the slow pace of the towns. When we stopped at a store about a block away from his parents, my son was looking at the set up of the Garmin and realized we were set up for walking mode! Oh my gosh, we laughed so hard ... no wonder we were on all side streets! We were sure to set it up correctly on the way home.... ;-) Other than that I love this GPS ... I plan on using it a lot (since I tend to get lost a lot!).

Little did I know when I closed the store for "Spring Break" that I would lose my Dad. After suffering with Parkinson's for the last few months, his heart gave way while he was sleeping and he died peacefully. He passed away on Palm Sunday. (My son was born one Palm Sunday morning 16 years ago). He died the day after my son's birthday, and I'm so glad it wasn't on my son's birthday. Busy week celebrating my 2 kid's birthdays.... and mourning in-between them. God always has perfect timing because I was caught up with work and put the store on closed-mode and then it happened. He was cremated and my siblings (I am one of six) .. are coming in for the funeral on Thursday. I will be closing the store again on Wednesday thru Tuesday (4/14-21).

Meanwhile we have lots of orders and will get them out as fast as we can. Some of you left notes about needing them for showers, etc., so if you did order something and it is needed quickly, please email me. All orders will ship as quickly as possible.

Sweet Little Peas!

How adorable is this picture?!! I met a new friend this week through ebay and she became a gramma to these PRECIOUS triplet girls a few weeks ago! What sweet little peas! She sent me the most adorable photos of them ... loved looking at each one .. so artistic and sweet! If I had babies again this is what I would do ... find a creative photographer and get really unique shots! It would be so worth the money to capture these moments for a lifetime!

Funny thing is I had done some sweet pea artwork awhile back and never did anything with it and I just made a door hanger and a baby birth print the same day she mailed me this photo! I had to ask her if I could use it!

The door hanger is generic, but of course I can put any name or saying on it! So, I have this one sitting here without a little doorknob to hang on ... how about I give it away this weekend? The Best Sugar Cookies!

I went to our women's retreat thru our church last weekend and brought my only "claim to fame" -- my sugar cookies. I have to bring them to every family holiday gathering and now I wonder if I'll have to bring them back to the retreat each year ... LOL.. that's ok... I enjoy making them. Below is the recipe... and look at the cute little sandwich bag toppers! I will send you a set of 2 with ANY purchase at Farmhousefive.com before Valentine's Day... just remind me in check out notes.

This recipe was given to me about 12 years ago from a friend. She heard about it on the radio. One of the disc jockeys loved this recipe so much he shared it. Make these cookies and see if you are not the hit of the party! They are very EASY to roll out (no need to chill!) and icing is TDF. (not the dull tasting royal icing here). They don't turn out as pretty as Martha Stewart's royal icing cookies, but I know they taste better! Here's the recipe:

In your mixer cream the butter and sugar, add eggs & vanilla.

2 sticks BUTTER (no margarine, please!)
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla (the real deal)

Add dry ingredients:

3 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cream of tartar (I know this is what makes the cookies special).
1/2 tsp. salt

Roll dough 1/8" thick. Use cookie cutter to make seasonal forms. Bake for 7 mins @ 375. (I check at 5 1/2 to 6 minutes) or until lightly golden brown just around the edges (don't over bake). Makes about 5 dozen 2" round cookies. For frosting combine the following ingredients:

1 1b box of confectioner's sugar
1 stick of butter
8 oz. cream cheese
2 tsp. vanilla

No need to add milk (but if you want to just add a tsp, doesn't need it).

Have fun decorating! Post me a comment if you make these. I want to hear how you are queen for the day! (seriously! LOL).

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas/New Years! Mine was very hectic, emotional, and strange! My dad has Parkinson's and took a terrible turn for the worse and ended up in the hospital for a week (we really thought we were going to lose him). Thankfully, after medicine adjustments, hydration (he was very dehydrated and was having kidney failure) ... he improved so much! A few days ago we put him in a nursing home/rehab and hopefully he will get strong again and be able to come back home. He lives an hour from me so my sister and I did a lot of driving back and forth every day helping out and visiting him. Thanks to all that emailed me and asked about him! You guys are the best!

It's been a busy week (wait, it's only Tuesday!). I am getting caught up after coming home on Friday. Everyone loves a sale, especially these days with gas prices so high. My website needed a little face lift (as Amy calls it!) (Amy of Blisscm.com, is my website designer). I think she did a fabulous job! If you are looking to build a site, see Amy, she's awesome! She has a large portfolio to browse!

Some new changes were made, one of them being that we accept credit cards (visa/mc) (along with paypal). A lot of people prefer shopping by credit cards, so we are happy to announce we do too!

Another great change is you will be able to leave your personalization information within each listing (instead of in the check out notes). Those have to be manually entered into each product, so it will be a week or so before it's totally done.

Sugar Cookies!

Every family gathering this is what is expected of me: Sugar Cookies! Some holidays they are pretty because I took the time decorating them! Some holidays they don't look so cute because I'm soooo tired from the work week. Today I made a batch of Easter eggs and I would say looks-wise, they are OK. I didn't spend a whole lot of time on them.. LOL.... but they will stil be edible! ;-). This recipe was given to me about 12 years ago from a friend. She heard about it on the radio. One of the disc jockeys loved this recipe so much he shared it. Make these cookies and see if you are not the hit of the party! They are very EASY to roll out (no need to chill!) and icing is TDF. (not the dull tasting royal icing here). They don't turn out as pretty as Martha Stewart's royal icing cookies, but I know they taste better! Here's the recipe:

In your mixer cream the butter and sugar, add eggs & vanilla.

2 sticks BUTTER (no margarine, please!)
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla (the real deal)

Add dry ingredients:

3 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cream of tartar (I know this is what makes the cookies special).
1/2 tsp. salt

Roll dough 1/8" thick. Use cookie cutter to make seasonal forms. Bake for 7 mins. (I check at 5 1/2 to 6 minutes) or until lightly golden brown just around the edges (don't over bake). Makes about 5 dozen 2" round cookies. For frosting combine the following ingredients:

1 1b box of confectioner's sugar
1 stick of butter
8 oz. cream cheese
2 tsp. vanilla

No need to add milk (but if you want to just add a tsp, doesn't need it).

YAY! The weekend is finally here. All week long I think "when is Saturday?" (so I can sleep in... if you call getting up at 7:30-8:00 sleeping in... ha!) Of course, all you mommies out there that get up for nighttime feedings .. I remember those days ... they are rough... wonderful moments, but rough! I do like my sleep! ;-)

I was in Walmart the other day and I couldn't believe the frame selection they now have! I'm telling you these black gallery frames with white mats look just like a Pottery Barn frame! They were only $7 or so!

This is an 8x8 frame with a 5x5 opening. If there is a letter print you would like in this size OR another little print, such as a fairy, email me and I'll tell you how to order a 5x5 print. A grouping would be cute too. I found some 11x14 black frames (no mat) for $5 each at Walmart too! I think they got a new Buyer for that department.. you have to check out your local WM. The frames are not available online, I checked.

Trying to work down my custom request list .... it's nice to sit down and create, but I get lots of emails during the day and it always slows me down (not to mention just getting my orders out between the website & ebay)! January is typically my busiest time of the year, but I am trying to squeeze in new artwork. I have a number of things going right now such as new jerseys, fairies, friends & sisters, hit the road cars, vintage airplanes, and more. Happy New Year!! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. We did ... it was busy on Christmas Eve visiting family and friends, but Christmas Day I spent most of it in my pj's. ;-) BTW, today is my 23rd wedding anniversary! We are going to a fun new restaurant in town tonight. ;-)

I have been meaning to post this new art. I have had several requests for it ... Ocean Critters/Under the Sea. I think it turned out nice. The pictures don't show the colors very well or the clarity. I painted these and then went over them with ink stitches using an archival ink pen. I used to do this technique a long time ago. They come in pink & blue versions and letter prints are available too. I can make PicturePals out of this design too.

Some good news about my friend, Randi!! She finished her chemo and had her scan last week and the results came in very good!! They found no tumors in the scan. Is that a miracle or what?!! Next week they will look at her lymph nodes and see if the cancer is still in there. We are hoping she is completely clear. For those of you who kept Randi in your prayers, I thank you from the bottom of my heart! She is such a dear dear friend to me and has been for many years. I will keep you posted about her results next week.

Fire Fighter Artwork on sale this week

I am back from a week off visiting my mom for her 80th birthday! My sister and I made her a Memory Book (that turned out quite nice!) and our siblings (6 total) met us in Chicago (where I grew up). My mom loved her book and having all of us together again. It was a sweet time!

After the party, my friend picked me up and we flew to San Diego to visit our friend, Randi, who has breast cancer (stage 4). We are praying for a miracle! Her spirits were up, like always, and she looked great with her funky head wraps. Randi's spirit and contagious laughter makes her beautiful! Her daughter was a week overdue to have her baby and she was big! She is so adorable, I'll have to post photos of her. She looks like a model with a big belly! We went out to eat a lot and went to this really nice outdoor mall when we started seeing the fires! We thought it was only one fire, until we got a call in the middle of the night (reverse 911 call) to evacuate! We went outside to see ash falling like snow and the sky all red (including the moon). After watching the news, getting our coffee, we started packing up important items. We took her 4 dogs, 2 cats with us... LOL.... to her friends house ... what a trip! That night her daughter went into labor and the next day, before we caught our flight, the baby was born. She called us in the morning to say she was only dialated to 3, so we were moving slow with our coffee, etc., and then one hour later she was dialated to 9! Needless to say, we flew to the hospital and when we were pulling in we got a call from her husband saying she was ready to deliver! Randi was there just in time to see this beautiful baby girl be born! 9 lbs 1 oz baby, named Randi (after Grandma!). She was a perfect baby, her coloring, and her little eyes were opened looking at her mommy. Oh, too sweet! Randi was suppose to have her chemo the day before, but the hospital she was getting it done at was closed due to the fires! So, she was getting the chemo at the same hospital as her daughter that afternoon. It is her last treatment. Anyhow, we hugged goodbye and rushed to the airport to catch our plane. We had quite an adventure in 3 short days!

It is good to be home and I came home to 500 emails.. but I feel caught up now and ready to do some new artwork!

Hi! Another month come and gone. Most kids are back in school now, but those lucky few get to start after Labor Day. Those days are pretty much gone for most kids across the country. How sad! The summer seemed too short. Anyhoo... I noticed that Hobby Lobby is having a 50% off sale on their frames ... GREAT deal! And Michaels are 40% off thru tomorrow (Saturday). Can you believe that summer is about over?? My kids go back this Wednesday already! It seems it was July 4th like last weekend! I sure don't feel I got a lot done this summer workwise! I did spend some time with my kids so that was good. I am actually going to miss having them (OK... I am going to miss sleeping in a bit!). My Natalie starts middle school! She is pretty excited and we had to go out and buy a bunch of locker stuff to organize her locker (did we ever have that?). Nick's going into 8th and Ryan is starting his 2nd year at UGA. Ryan moved in with a friend this summer, so he's renting a house, working, and will soon juggle school with that. We had a great time at the beach .. and I plan to post a little slide of pics this week. Just haven't had time. I found out some really sad news this summer and that is one of my best friends is in stage 4 of breast cancer. It's been very devastating and we are just praying the chemo will prolong her life. Please remember Randi in your prayers... she is a dear old high school friend. You know the old saying .... "Old friends are the best friends!" So true. BTW, if you haven't checked out the little video about "Silent Breast Cancer" to the right (below a bit), you NEED to! This is something I never heard of ... and it is quite shocking to say the least! It is a pretty short video, but it really draws you in and will make you want to tell every woman you know.

Taking a little break from canvases

I will be taking a break this summer from canvases. If you have ordered one, no worries, you will still be getting it, but this should be the last week I will be creating them for awhile. I need to take a break with my kids! I will still be adding new art prints and wallpaper cutouts all summer... so please email me the themes you are looking for and I'll add you to my list. Since I won't be doing canvases, I will be able to work down my waiting list a lot faster! I look forward to creating some new themes! I have also been asked to illustrate a children's book so I hope to be busy on that this summer too. If you have any questions, especially about the canvases, please don't hesitate to email me!

Oh, check out the little picture slide of my daughter getting 10" cut off her hair. She donated her hair to Locks of Love .... an organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

New Birdie Artwork

Just posted some new Birdie artwork today. "Birdies on a branch." Perfect for sweet pastel bedrooms. This is the second set I've done where the painting extends to another canvas (or 3 canvases--my cars & trucks set) (I know there is a name for it.. I just can't remember it!). Anyhow, I added another three-print set to coordinate with this one too. I just love painting birdies! Ok... it's time to paint some new boy's art!

What a sad day in Virginia and around America. Once again, our Country has been shaken with tragedy. My heart goes out to all those parents, and all those who lost their friends ... and went thru that ordeal. Unbelievable! My son is just ending his first year in college (so it hits home even more so). It just tears me up thinking of the horror that went on at that campus, and the thought of losing your child like that. It really makes you think about all the petty stuff you worry about it... how meaningless it really is! Wish I could keep things in perspective like that daily!

Hope you have a great week.... I think most kids are out of school this week for Spring Break. I look forward to getting an extra hour of sleep each morning, aren't you?!

I had an MRI done the other week and it turns out my sciatica pain is due to a few herniated discs. I will be getting a cortisone injection and continue physical therapy. I am looking forward to relief! You can't sit at a computer for 5 years and not pay for it in your 40s... LOL!

Oh... we had a scare yesterday! Alpo dog food recalled their dog food (in the news yesterday--Saturday) and it turned out the cans we were giving her were the exact numbers on the website that were contaminated! She was having some of the symptoms and so I called the emergency animal hospital asking if I should come in or wait to see my vet on Monday. Of course we had to go in! Turns out she had an infection and had a fever. I'm taking her to my regular vet (& friend) to make sure she is OK. They gave her an IV of fluids and put her on antibiotics. She was really dehydrated.
